Description

Overlooked by an ancient gum, the chapel conjures up the romance of country days yet has a gravitas that befits the celebration of some of life’s most important milestones.

The Chapel was originally a small country church located elsewhere in Lyonville. It was moved to Babbington Park many years ago, where it fell into disrepair and was used as a farm shed. Over the last few years, Susan Thompson has overseen the restoration and design of this classic Australian country building.
The chapel features restored cathedral and stained glass windows, the addition of a bell tower with a working bell, and a reclaimed Baltic timber floor. The elevated ‘altar’ allows views over old stone walling to the lake beyond. Custom-made timber seating and carefully chosen lighting crowned with a vox populi chandelier complete the main room. To the side is a beautifully appointed day room, a space to collect oneself, prepare or spend a private moment together to contemplate the occasion.

The grounds surrounding the chapel provide everything you need to create the perfect country setting.

Flowers picked from our carefully maintained cutting beds can adorn the chapel, from the ceilings to the gracious ancient urns. Our cool climate nurtures an abundance of delphiniums, foxgloves, roses, tulips and the most prized of all, the peonies in November and early December. Photographic moments are everywhere.

From the swing that hangs from the ancient gum, to the little house by the lake and it’s attendant row boat, or even in the series1 Land Rover that is much loved by all on the farm. Picturesque cows, sheep, goats and poultry might allow you to wrangle them into a photo or two.

Geese that pride themselves on feathers that make them look like they are wearing their version of a wedding gown might noisily want to join the festivities.

Behind the chapel is the domain of Susan’s wife, renowned chef Annie Smithers. Here the Fête Champêtre
sits. A bespoke van to serve you wine, spirits, beer and cordials from the region and afar. Paired with bespoke
menus of hor’dourves cooked over wood on the grill and in the oven, Annie can recreate the feeling of a pastoral celebration for your event.

The Chapel comfortably seats 40 guests, and a reception can be arranged at du Fermier, an award-winning restaurant 10 minutes away in Trentham.
A bespoke package can be created for your wedding day.
